Breaking News: Second-half goal rush puts Man City 3 points behind leaders Liverpool

Goals from Raheem Sterling, Kevin De Bruyne and Ilkay Gundogan handed Manchester City a 3-0 win against Aston Villa at the Etihad stadium.

Gabriel Jesus and David Silva both missed golden chances in the first half as they dragged their shots wide with the best chances of a frustrating first half.

It took the champions just 22 seconds after the break for Jesus’s header to find it’s way into the path of Sterling, who put it past Tom Heaton for his 13 goal in 14 appearances in all competitions this season, more than any other Premier League player in 2019-20.

City went 2-0 up in the 65th minute as Kevin De Bruyne’s cross went past everyone to end up at the back of the net, before Gundogan made it 3 with a low strike on the 70-minute mark.

Fernandinho was sent off late on as he received a second yellow card.

David Silva made a club-record 267th Premier League start, for the champions.

The victory means City moves back above Leicester City and three points behind Liverpool ahead of the Reds Sunday match against Tottenham Hotspur.

Villa’s first loss in three drops them to 13th place with 11 points and 11 points behind City’s.
